Ken Calvert vs Bill Hedrick

Although a lot of fuss has been made, and rightly so, about the presidential race, there is another important race to Riversiders this election cycle. Ken Calvert is running for the House of Representatives in the 44th district.

According to CREW, an independent watchdog organization, Ken Calvert is one of the most corrupt members of congress.

“His ethics issues stem from his use of earmarks for personal gain and his connections to a lobbying firm under investigation,” according to CREW.

Calvert’s party fliers contrast him from Bill Hedrick, his opponent, by stating that Hedrick is endorsed by over 25 labor unions.

Why is this a bad thing? Since when was American anti-union? Collective bargaining is what gives workers influence over employers to get health insurance, fair wages and fair hours. If you’re fighting for the middle class, shouldn’t you want the middle-class worker endorsement?

Ken Calvert is also one of the last people in America that thinks that “victory” is achievable in Iraq. Victory against whom? Define “victory.” Calvert attacks Hedrick for wanting to bring the troops home, and Hedrick has two children serving in the military.

Calvert certainly doesn’t seem to want to keep his seat in congress, and you shouldn’t want him to either.

I am a working man in a union. And I feel that our contry has been made strong the representation that the union has provided the common worker. Giving us a unified voice to make our needs known. I never felt that Calvert has ever represented my views. I'm glad that we have an opponent to unseat this greedy, self serving politician. If I remember correctly he ran unoppossed in the last election.
